Washington, D.C. – “Today, I commend the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda for their conviction of Colonel Theoneste Bagosora, whose role in the 1994 genocide resulted in the death of over 800,000 Rwandans."

“I sincerely hope that this conviction brings solace to those who remain haunted by this inexplicable tragedy and reassurance to those still suffering from violence and oppression at the hands of brutal regimes around the world.  After over a decade of waiting, this verdict sends a clear and unequivocal message that unrestrained murder and despotism will not be tolerated by the international community.  The leaders of these savage atrocities will be held accountable for their crimes against humanity and will not escape punishment.”
